What is RSS?

The myfootballwriter.com RSS news feed delivers our very latest headlines to you as soon as they appear so you can keep up with the latest news from Carrow Road. RSS (or Really Simple Syndication if to impress people) is a bit like having your own virtual paperboy for ever story that breaks.

How does RSS work?

You subscribe to the feed (for free!) and whenever we post a new story on the site you will receive a message, much like an email. It will provide you with the headline, a brief description and a direct link to the full story. RSS means you don't have to miss a thing. Like email, a message arrives and you can either read it straight away or come back to it while munching lunch.

How can I get RSS?

First thing you'll need is our feed (http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com/rss), and the second is a way of reading it. RSS has really taken off since we launched our news feed last season - there's no shortage of ways to get at it.

1) Web-based newsreader

You have to visit a site to read your feeds, much like you would visiting hotmail to read your email. This is how we tend to use RSS. We really like Netvibes and Bloglines, but a Google search will turn up umpteen others if you prefer.

2) Desktop newsreader

Desktop readers sit happily in the background on your machine in the same way an email program such as Outlook would and they'll notify you when a new story appears, just like being told you've got mail. Try Awasu while Newsgator are the daddies of RSS. Their FeedDemon is excellent, but it's $30.

3) Plug-ins

You can integrate news feeds into existing applications such as Microsoft Outlook or Internet Explorer. The advantage is that you are likely to have these applications open already. Some browsers and email apps already support RSS making life that little bit easier. Windows Vista features RSS and for Mac users, Safari 2.0 does too. For Firefox, there's Sage or you can just use what they call 'live bookmark'. Equally, Firefox's sister email application Thunderbird will handle all the RSS you need.

Want to use our feed on your own site?

Fill your boots, because this season we've made integration as easy as falling off a log. All you need to do is copy and paste the following code into your site and you'll have your very own, bespoke myfootballwriter.com headlines chugging away on your homepage. Ideal for supporters' sites, blogs, MySpace pages etc. Maybe we'll get round to a Facebook widget at some point too!

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com/rss/mini_feed.asp"></script>
<script type=
"text/javascript">
drawRSS();
</script>
